Day 15: Christ
Verse: Matthew 16:16 NKJV
“Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”
Devotion: Christ is not Jesus’ last name. It is a title. It means “the Anointed One,” the Messiah. From the beginning, God promised that a Savior would come. Someone who would deal with sin, restore what was broken, and bring people back into relationship with Him. Throughout the Old Testament, that promise was repeated and built upon. Then Jesus came. When Peter said, “You are the Christ,” he was recognizing that Jesus is the fulfillment of everything God had spoken. He isn’t just a teacher, not just a prophet, not just a good man. He is the One who was sent to save. Luke 4:18 records Jesus reading from Isaiah and declaring, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me.” The word anointed is directly connected to Christ. Jesus was set apart and empowered for a specific purpose. That purpose was to redeem and restore. Acts 10:38 says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Everywhere Jesus went, He brought freedom, healing, and truth.
But His mission did not stop there. The title Christ points us to the cross. Jesus came not only to teach and to lead, but to give His life. 1 Peter 3:18 says, “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.” He took on what we couldn’t carry so that we could be brought near to Him. He is the Anointed One who fulfilled the law, carried our sin, and made a way for us to be made right with God. This matters for how we live today. Calling Jesus “Christ” is not just a statement. It is a recognition of who He is and what that means for us. It means He has authority and that He is the only way. It means our lives are now lived in response to Him. Colossians 2:6 says, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.” We don’t just believe in Him once and move on. We continue to follow Him daily. There are many voices in the world offering direction, truth, and identity. But only one is the Christ. Only one has the authority to save. Only one has the power to transform a life. Today is a reminder to come back to the center. Jesus is the Christ. And everything in our lives flows from that truth.
Prayer: God, thank You for sending Jesus as the Christ, the Anointed One, and that He is not just a part of my life, but the center of it. Help me to see Him clearly and to respond to who He truly is. I don’t want to follow opinions or distractions; I want to follow Him. Thank You for the work of the cross, for the forgiveness of my sins, and for making a way for me to be in relationship with You. Teach me to walk in Him daily, to trust His authority, follow His lead, and live in response to what He has done. Jesus, You are the Christ, and I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
