Verse: Genesis 17:1 NKJV “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, ‘I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.’”

Devotional: El Shaddai means “God Almighty.” It’s a name that speaks of God’s strength, His sufficiency, and His ability to do what we cannot. In Genesis 17, God reveals Himself to Abram as El Shaddai at a very specific moment. Abram was old. The promise God had given him years earlier still had not come to pass. From a natural perspective, it looked impossible. And that is exactly when God spoke. “I am Almighty God.” God did not start by explaining the plan. He reminded Abram of who He is. This is important because we often focus on what we see. We determine situations by what feels possible or realistic. When something stretches beyond that, we begin to doubt. We question if it will work out, or if it will even happen. But El Shaddai isn’t limited by what is possible to us. Jeremiah 32:17 says, “Ah, Lord God Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm There is nothing too hard for You.” Luke 1:37 says, “For with God nothing will be impossible.” God doesn’t need ideal conditions to move. He doesn’t need everything to line up perfectly. He is able because of who He is, not because of what surrounds Him. El Shaddai also speaks to God’s sufficiency. He is not only powerful, He is also enough.

There are times when we feel like we do not have what we need. Not enough strength, not enough wisdom, not enough resources. It is easy to feel inadequate when we are looking at our own limitations. But God never intended for us to rely on ourselves. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” What feels like a lack in us becomes an opportunity for God’s strength to be seen more clearly. Abram couldn’t produce the promise on his own. That was the point. God wanted to show that the promise would come through His power, not Abram’s effort. The same is true for us. El Shaddai invites us to stop striving and start trusting. To stop trying to make everything happen in our own strength and begin to rely on Him. This doesn’t mean we do nothing. It means we walk in obedience while trusting that God is the One who brings the result. Today, whatever feels too big, too far gone, or too difficult is certainly not beyond God. He is El Shaddai. He is able. And He is enough.

Prayer: God, You are El Shaddai, the Almighty. There is nothing too hard for You, and nothing is outside of Your power. I bring to You the areas of my life that feel impossible. The places where I feel weak, uncertain, or not enough. Remind me that You are more than enough. Help me to stop striving in my own strength and to trust You fully. Teach me to walk in obedience while relying on Your power to accomplish what I cannot. Your strength is greater than my weakness. Your ability is greater than my limitations. I trust You today as El Shaddai. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
